Uji Efektivitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Kulit Buah Manggis (Garcinia mangostana L) dalam Berbagai Konsentrasi terhadap Staphylococcus aureus
Abstract
Introduction: Infectious diseases are the most common diseases in Indonesia and world wide. The microorganisms that most often cause infection are bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria that most often causes infection in humans. Bacterial infections are treated by antibiotics. However, improper use of antibiotics causes antibiotic resistance. Therefore, research on natural ingredients that have antibacterial effects such as mangosteen peel needs to be done.
Purpose: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of mangosteen peel in various concentrations against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Methods: This study was a pure laboratory experiment (True Experimental) with a Post Test Only Control Group Design research design. This study used ethanol extract of mangosteen peel in various concentration of 20%, 40%, 60%, 100%, positive control, and negative control. Repetition is carried out four times by the diffusion method using disc paper. Inhibitory clear zone was assessed by measuring the clean zone around the disc after incubation at 37°C for 24 hours. Results: Mangosteen peel can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 100% with an average inhibition clear zone of 14.75 mm, 17.52 mm, 20.68 mm, and 25.13 mm. In the results of the LSD analysis, mangosteen peel extract with a concentration of 20%,
40%, 60%, and 100% significantly different from negative controls. Furthermore, a concentration of 100% significantly different with concentrations of 20%, 40%, and 60%. Thus the concentration of 60% is significantly different from 20%. Conclusion: Mangosteen peel extract can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at a concentration of 60% and 100%.
