Perbandingan Antara Rinitis Alergi dan Non-Rinitis Alergi pada Anak Penderita Dermatitis Atopi di Sekolah Yayasan Perguruan Katolik Don Bosco Medan

Background: A progression of atopic disease, known as atopic march, is a progression of allergic diseases starting from atopic dermatitis and followed by other atopic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and other allergic diseases. Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory disease of the skin caused by allergic reaction and can be derived. Its prevalence was increasing 0,3% to 20,5% in 10 last year. Allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory disease of the nasal cavity caused by allergic reaction such as activation of IgE. This disease is not deadly but have an economic impact caused by lifelong treatment. The objective of this study was to determine the difference among allergic rhinitis and non-allergic rhinitis in children with atopic dermatitis at the Schools of Yayasan Perguruan Katolik Don Bosco Medan.
Methods: This research was an analytic research with case control design. The samples were taken with consecutive sampling technique.
Result: There was no significant differences among allergic rhinitis and non-allergic rhinitis in children with atopic dermatitis (p > 0.05), and then children with atopic dermatitis are 1,357 times more susceptible to get allergic rhinitis than children who do not have atopic dermatitis (OR 1,357; Cl 95%, 0,65-2,85).
Conclusion: There was no differences among allergic rhinitis and non-allergic rhinitis in children with atopic dermatitis.
