The Effect of Using Interactive Writing Technique on Students’ Writing Ability in Writing Descriptive Text at the Second Grade of SMPS Hang Tuah I Belawan
Abstract
This study focused on finding out the effect of applying Interactive Writing on students’ writing ability. The objective of the study is to find out whether or not Interactive Writing Technique affects students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the first-year students of SMPS Hang Tuah I Belawan. The writer took VIII-1 which consists of 10 students as an experimental class with used interactive writing technique and VIII-B which consists of 10 students as the control group used the conventional method. The population of this study was 20 students which consist of eight classes. The writer took two classes as random sampling to see the effect of interactive writing technique in teaching writing. The data were taken by giving writing a descriptive test for describing a place. The tests were divided into two tests: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control groups. The mean score of pre-test in the experimental class is 59 and the post-test is 86.1. The mean score of pre-test in the control group is
59.7 and the post-test is 67.6. It is conducted that the mean score of the experimental group is higher than a control group. The result that t-calculated > t-table as the level of
significance p=0.05 (6.68 > 2.101). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the
null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is suggested that teachers of English subject apply Interactive Writing Technique as an alternative teaching technique to help writing ability at eighth grade students of Junior High School.
