Improving Writing Skill through Think-Talk-Write Strategy of Second Year Students of SMA Swasta Pembangunan Galang.
Abstract
This study deals with the improving students’ writing skills through Think-Talk-Write Strategy. This study tries to find out does Think-Talk-Write Strategy significantly improve writing skill of students. Think-Talk-Write Strategy is one of the group learning strategies that involves students directly because it requires direct srudents’ thinking, talking and writing that are closely related with the students’ writing skills in solving the problems of writing. This study is coducted by using Clasroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this study is the second year students of SMA Swasta Pembangunan Galang in academic year of 2014/2015. The sample of this study is the students XI IPA consisting 35 students. There were two kinds of collected data during the study; quantitative and qualitative data. The data for collecting the quantitative data was writing test while with qualitative data were gathered through interview, questionnaire sheet, diary notes, and observation sheet. The qualitative data showed the students were interested in Think-Talk-Write Strategy. Based on quantitative data, it is found that students’ writing achivement improved from pre-test to post-test cycle I and post-test cycle II. It can be seen from the students’ mean scores and the percentage of the students who got score up to 75. The mean of the students’ scores who got score up to 75 for pre-test is 50.37, for the post-test cycle I is 66.25 and post-test II is 71.42. There was an improvement of the application of Think-Talk-Write Strategy to teach writing descriptive. It is suggested to the students English Department, to study several strategy especially the Think-Talk-Write Strategy to make them easier to teach English and for English teacher, to know many strategies in teaching writing so that the learning process has a good variation and make students more enjoyable.
