dc.description.abstract | This research aims to describe the scientific literacy skills of student’s of SMP Negeri 1
Borbor. The research method used in this researchi is descriptive quantitative. The
sample in this study was all 8th at SMP Negeri 1 Borbor, totaling 81 student’s based on
the saturated sample technique. The research instrument used was a HOTS level
scientific literacy test in the form of multiple choice and an essay based on scientific
literacy indicators. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the average
value of student’s literacy skills was 38% in the low category. Research results are
divided into several indicators, indicators identify valid scientific opinions 17,5%,
indicators conduct an effective literature search 16,1%, indicators understand the
elements of research design and how the impact finding/conclusions 18,5%, indicators
make graphs accurately from data 22,3%, indicators solve problems using quantitative
skills, including basic statistic 11,4%, indicators understand and interpret basic
statistics 9,93% and indicators make inferences, predictions and conclusions based on
quantitative data 11,5%. Based on data analysis that has been carried out on each
indicator, it can be concluded that the scientific literacy ability of student’s is low.
Other factors that cause student’s low scientific literacy skills include misconceptions,
non-contextual learning, lack of reading literacy, selection of textbooks, study habits,
lack of guidance from teachers and parents in student learning activities. | en_US |
