This study aims to determine the effect of contextual learning on students'
understanding of the concept of heat material and students' activities during
contextual learning. The type of research used is a quasi-experimental research design
with nonequivalent control group design. The sample in this study consisted of two
groups, namely the experimental class and the control class. Class 7-1 as the
experimental class and class 7-2 as the control class with a total of 60 people. The
technique used in this study is non-random. The research instruments used were
student activity sheets and multiple-choice questions to determine student
understanding. Based on the students' understanding, the average posttest score for
the experimental class was 68.17 and the posttest average for the control class was
10.87. The results obtained with one-sided t-test for posttest data in the experimental
and control classes are = 0.05, obtained tcount = 1.694 and ttable = 1.982, in this case Ho is
rejected and Ha is accepted. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that
there is a significant effect on the effect of contextual learning on students'
understanding of the concept of heat in the 7th grade of SMP Negeri 1 Borbor.
