Students Perception of Google Translate as Media for Translating English Descriptive Text at Fifth Semester of English Department Nommensen HKBP University

Abstract

Google translate is a medium for translating text and students have different opinions on google translate. The aim of this study to know students perception of Google Translate as Media for Translating English Descriptive Text at Fifth Semester of English Department Nommensen HKBP Universit. In this study, the instruments of collecting data are used questionnaires which the researcher shared by using Google Form. The questionnaire sheet consists of twelve questions about students perception of Google Transalte as media for translating english descriptive text. The source of data in this study was taken by the fifth-semester student of English Department. There are twenty students have been filled the questionnaire sheet. This study was applied a descriptive qualitative design. This study used a questionnaire instruments to collect data. The findings from the data analysis, Students have different postive and negative perception about Google Transalte as media for translating English descriptive text. students really like using Google translate as media for translating English descriptive text because make students easier. Students can translate text faster than open a dictionary. Google translate help students improve vocabulary with good intonation. In using google translate students feel happy because it is easier to use. But Google translate for a sentence is not always correct. Students have difficulty to translate descriptive text if the connection so bad. Based on the results, the respondents stated that this is an alternative way to do learning activities.
