dc.description.abstractThis thesis is about an analysis of figurative language on conversation in classroom interaction of eleventh grade students at SMA Marisi Medan. Figurative language is language using figures of speech (a way of saying one thing and meaning another). The aims of the study were to find out the types of figurative language on student’s conversation and to find out the most dominant. The writer applied Descriptive Qualitative Research. The data were taken from the utterances of figurative language on conversations in classroom interaction of eleventh grade students at SMA Marisi Medan. The writer analyzed all utterances that contained to figurative language. The writer found 5 types of figurative language namely: Simile (19 sentences, 38%), Metaphor (4 sentences, 8%), Hyperbole (14 sentences, 28%), Personification (3 sentences, 6%), Irony (10 sentences, 20%). The writer also found the most dominant from 5 types of figurative language is Simile with (19 sentences, 38%). The benefits of the results of this study were that the students understand about figurative language that they use in their daily conversation and the students become easier to understand the sentence that contains figurative language.en_US
