dc.description.abstractThis thesis focused on the using of word formation processes used in news such as BBC news about the hotest news of covid-19. The writer realizes that, there are some new words that become commonly used to appear on the news. It happened when the hot news about Covid-19 started to spread around the world so the news writer write news with some new words on BBC News online. The aims of this thesis were to classify and analyze the word formation process used in social media and also to find out the kinds of word formation processes the most dominant one. The writer used descriptive qualitative method, in which the data were words that contain word formation processes used in news. The data were analyzed applying the theory of word formation processes by yule (2006). The result of this research there are 3 types of word formation processes are found in news media. They are acronym, compounding, and derivation, there are 68 words formation process that are found in BBC news about the hotest news of covid-19. The writer found 15 words that exist the process of acronym, 27 words that exist the process of compounding, and 30 word that exist formation processes, the writer used Hancock's formula. The most dominant type of word formation processes was derivation (44,11%), compounding (39,7%) then followed by acronym (16,17%) . In BBC news media, the writer found that derivation was the most dominant. derivation was very much needed in writing news content or body of news, as an alternative to form a word that is short language but clear and easier to understand by the audience or readers. and that was found in BBC news especially the hotest news about covid-19.en_US
