    Student’s Difficulties in Using Transition Signals in Writing Descriptive Paragraph of the Second Year Students of SMP Gajah Mada Medan

    Abstract
    This research is attempts to discuss about students’ difficulties in using transition signals in writing descriptive paragraph of the second year students of SMP Gajah Mada Medan. The objectives of this study to find out the types of transition signals are difficult used by the student in writing descriptive paragraph. The researcher want to find out the dominant types of transition signals are difficult used by the students in writing descriptive paragraph. The population of this research were 18 of the second year students of SMP Gajah Mada Medan. The study used descriptive qualitative research. The result of the study showed there were four types of students difficulties in using transition signals in writing descriptive paragraph namely: Additional idea, Opposite Idea or Contrast, Example and Cause-Effect. The dominant types of transition signals are difficult used by the students in writing descriptive paragraph was cause- effect with 9 (33,3%) cases. This thesis is suggested for the students and also teachers of English department as source of valuable knowledge and information of students difficulties in using transition signals.
