This research aimed to find out the effect on students’ listening skill by using Filling Gap Technique. The research design of this study was experimental quantitative. The third grade students in SMP N Pangaribuan were chosen as the sample of this study with total number of 30 students. The experimental and control class employed pre-test and post-test. These tests proved in the form of listening test. The data on the tests were calculated by using t-test formula. The result showed that the post-test score was higher than the pre-test. The finding showed that there was an effect significantly on the student’s listening achievement after treatment. The improvement can be seen from the result of the test. The mean score of the experimental class range from the pre-test was 54.6 and the post-test 82.13. And for the control class the mean score pre-test was 53.3 and from the post-test was 66.26. The results of the T-test calculation show that t-observed > t-table - 4.70 > 1.699 at a significance level of p = 0.05 degrees of freedom (df) - Nx+Ny-2= 15+15-2-28. Thus Filling Gap could be used as one of the alternative technique in teaching listening for third grade of SMP N Pangaribuan.en_US
