dc.description.abstractThis research focuses on finding out the meaning of Umpasa and Umpama of Toba Batak language as found in Jambar Hata Dongan Tu Ulaon Adat book, to find out what is the technique of translation applied in translating Umpama as found in Jambar Hata Dongan Tu Ulaon Adat book. The research design was descriptive qualitative research. Descriptive qualitative research is a research procedure that produces descriptive data where the available data is obtained through written or oral words from people and their behavior, then from the results of the data analysis. The writer used the theory of Munday and Molina and Albir. The translation is changing an original written text in the original verbal language into a written text in a different verbal language. The result of the research, to translate the meaning of Umpasa and Umpama in Toba Batak language and what the technique of translation applied in translating Umpama as found in Jambar Hata Dongan Tu Ulaon Adat book. The techniques translation of Umpasa is adaptation, amplification, borrowing, calque, compensation, description whereas the techniques translation of Umpama is discursive creation, established equivalent, generalization, linguistic amplification, and linguistic compression. The data 6 types of Umpasa and 5 types of Umpama. The result of this research is the writer found out to analyze the data of umpasa and umpama through techniques translation.en_US
