    THE USE OF REFLECTIVE ESSAY STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE STUDENTS WRITING SKILL IN NARRATIVE TEXT (A Case of the 8th Grade Students of SMP Parulian 2 Medan)

    Abstract
    This research aims to find out the Use of Reflective Essay Strategies to improve students’ Writing Skill in Narrative text. The research design of this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The eight-grade students in SMP Parulian 2 Medan were consist 15 students. This research consisted of two cycles with two meetings in each cycle. The technique of collecting data were by filling observation checlist forms, observing the teaching and learning process, and scoring students’ writing. In analyzing those data, the researcher used two methods namely quantitative and qualitative methods. In analyzing the qualitative the data ,the researcher did observation sheet. In analyzing the quantitative the data which were in the form of students’ writing performance task score, the researcher used a writing rubric. The result of this research show that the use of reflective essay strategies is able to improve students’ writing skills of narrative in terms of ideas, grammatical features, and organization. Based on qualitative data sources, the students were able to generate ideas well, apply correct grammatical features, and organize the paragraph well. Through the use reflectiv essay, the students were enthusiastic and motiavted to join in the taeching and learning process. Based on quantitative data source, It is shown by research result in the cycle I and cycle II. The research finding of the students’s test indicated that there was an improvement on the students’ writing narrative text achievement, which was taught by using reflective essay. It was proved by the data, which showed that the mean of students test 3 in cycle II (77,5) was higher than test 2 in the cycle I(69,3) and the orientation test (55,3). The qulitative data that were taken from observation sheet, showed that students’ interest in writing narrative text increased because they could write a narrative text by their experiences.
