dc.description.abstractThe objective of this study is to find out what the difficulties in writing descriptive text. Descriptive text is a kind of text to describe something, person, and place (Mukarto 2007:140). It has two text functions, they are identification and description. The participant and place of this study were the ten grade students of SMA Kesatuan Meranti. This study used qualitative descriptive. The data were collected by doing writing test. Writing test focused to find out difficulties of students writing in two text function (identification and description). From fifteen students there are five students wrote descriptive text with correct identification and correct description. Two students wrote correct identification but incorrect description. Four students wrote incorrect identification but correct description. Four students wrote both of identification and description incorrectly. Based on the result there are ten students get difficulties in writing descriptive text. It can be concluded that the ten grade students of SMA Kesatuan Meranti have difficulties in writing descriptive text. This result is suggested for English teacher to be used as a material to add their knowledge about student difficulties in writing descriptive text.en_US
