dc.description.abstractThis thesis is about An Analysis of Word Formation Used on Facebook Notes. The objective of the study was to find out the kind of word-formation used on Facebook Notes and word-formation that is the most frequently used on Facebook Notes. This study was conducted by applying Descriptive Qualitative research. The subject of this study was the eight-semester students of English Department students in Nommensen HKBP University who are using a Facebook account with English status. The writer took 20 posts on Facebook to get the data. The instrument of collecting data was Observation. The data were obtained on Facebook notes. The result showed that the students used six kinds of word formation, they are Affixation (12,32%), Clipping (6,85%), Blending (1,36%), Acronym (43,83%), Abbreviation (30,13%), and Compounding (5,47%). So, word-formation that is the most frequently used on Facebook Notes is Acronym. It means that many people especially young people know the word acronym, because it is easier to remember, simple and very fast to type if someone want to convey something. This thesis is not only for writers and other researchers but also has benefits for the nation and state. The benefit is to provide basic knowledge about word-formation which is indirectly used in Facebook notes. And also has benefits for teachers and students, namely making it easier to learn or explain about word formation through Facebook notes.en_US
