dc.description.abstractThis study were aimed to improve student’s ability in writing Hotatory Exposition text through Socratic Seminar Method at Senior High School academic year 2019/2020. because writing skills are the last in the language learning process after listening, speaking and reading. Among the four language skills writing skills are the most difficult to master various elements of language use from the outside which the contents of the essay of difficulties to develop language to be more interesting. The writer was interested and want to incorporate or combining the socratic seminar method to improve the students writing ability. The goal of seminar socratic was toachieve a deeper understanding about ideas and values in a text,guided students to think rationally and scientifically, the student participant worked together to build an answer and it can be easy to make summarizing or value from seminar.This study was conducted for 2 weeks because the writer was collected the Senior High School students for the sample of research due to the covid-19 pandemi that is happened at this time.The study is categorized as a clasroom action research. The CAR was done and the writer did two cycles in which each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection.The data were gathered through quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were obtained from student’s writing test score of pre-test and post-test in cycle I and II. The qualitative data were gained from observation sheet in the classroom in every meetings. The finding of this study showed that was improvement on the student’s ability in writing hortatory exposition text. It can be seen from the mean score of the pre-test was 5.708. The mean score of post-test in cycle I 6833 and the mean score of post-test in cycle II was 8083. In addition there were 1 student’s (8.3%) who passed KKM in the pre-test. Meanwhile, in cycle I there were 4 student’s (33.3%) who passed KKM, and it gained which was in the post- test cycle 2 there were 11 student’s (91.6%). Who passed KKM, so the criteria of success was achieved. Finally from the result of observation sheet it showed there was improvement from first meeting till the end in teaching – learning of cycle I and II. Related to the result of quantitative and qualitative above, it can be conclude that the writing ability in hortatory exposition text by using socratic seminar method improved and students were motivated in the teaching- learning process.en_US
