Abstract
The aim of the research is to evaluate effects of breeding and parity within each breeding in swine on offspring performance from birth to weaning. The research conducted on January 24 until February 24 2003 in PT. Mabarindo Sumbul Multi Farm, District of Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. Materials used were offspring records from March 2000 up to October 2000. The design use in this research was Partial Diallel cross among Duroc (D), Landrace (L) and Yokshire (Y) breeds, those were D♂ x D♀, D♂ x L♀, D♂ x Y♀, L♂ x L♀, L♂ x Y♀, and Y♂ x Y♀. Parameter observed were litter size, birth weight, the number of pig at weaning and weaning weight. Nested design was used to analyze data, and mean comparison for each parameter was conducted by use of Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result showed that breeding significantly (P<0,05) affected litter size, birth weight and number of pig weaned, but no affected weaning weight (P>0,05). There were significantly effects of parity within breeding of D♂ x L♀, D♂ x Y♀ on litter size, birth weight, the number of pig at weaning and weaning weight. Parity in D♂ x D♀, L♂ x L♀, no affected (P>0,05) litter size, birth weight, the number of pig at weaning and weaning weight. Parity in Y♂ x Y♀ significantly affected (P<0,05) litter size, birth weight and weaning weight, but no affected (P>0,05) the number of pig at weaning. Furthermore, there was significantly effect of parity in L♂ x L♀ on birth weight and weaning weight but no effect on the number of pig at weaning and weaning weight.
