dc.description.abstract | Background: PBL tutorial is one of the primary teaching and learning methods at FM UHN. There are 4 main principles underlying effective learning in PBL, such as constructive, self-directed, collaborative, and contextual learning. Therefore it is important to faculty to evaluate the implementation of those process.The purpose of this study was to describe impelementation level of PBL principles at FM UHN and the influencing factors.
Methods: This was a descriptive study using survey as a data collection method. Questionnairres were deployed to gather the level of constructive, self-directed, collaborative, and contextual learning in PBL tutorial from year 2 and 3 students at FM UHN. Data were analysed by calculating the total score of each subscale and categorized them into three levels. This study also used in-depth interview to explore perceived factors that influenced the application of PBL principles at tutorial session. There were 8 respondents that were chosen with purposive sampling method.
Results: From 98 respondents, there were respectively 67 (68.4%) and 55 (56.1%) students perceived well the level of constructive and contextual learning. Meanwhile, there were 51 (52%) and 62(63.3%) students perceived their self-directed and collaborative learning were at sufficient level. There were no differences between students from year 2 and year 3.
Conclusion: Students at FM UHN has implemented well the constructive and contextual learning, and should improve the level of self-directed and collaborative practice. Internal and external factors could hinder or support learning in tutorial. | en_US |
