dc.description.abstractThe objective of this paper is to identify the type of economic growth in regency and city of North Sumatra. According to the statistical data of the rate of economic growth and per capita of gross regional domestic product (PDRB) for during 2001-2011, East Coast and Plateu region have four type of growth meanwhile West Coast and Nias Islands has tow type. Much of regency and city in each region have the inconsistent type. In general, the type of East Coast is better than Plateau region. Much of regency and city in East Coast, Plateau, West Coast, and Nias Islands have inconsistency the type, except Medan as a "high growth and high income" and Simalungun as a "stagnant region". The inconsistency of the type is change, in general, from "growing region" into "stagnant region", vice verca. More than half inconsistency type in Plateau and East Coast region is happening in the regency and city that existed before regional autonomy (OTDA), while in the West Coast and Nias Islands inconsistency is happening in the regency and city after regional autonomy.en_US
