dc.description.abstractThe objective of this study is To find out whether the students’ are able to master anaphoric reference in narrative text and To find out the students difficulties in master anaphoric reference . This study was conducted by using descriptive quantitative research and qualitative research. The subject of this research was the eight grade students of SMP Swasta Romalbest Medan. This research was conducted in two methods. The instruments for collecting, the data was used by filling in the blank test for descriptive quantitative and observation for descriptive qualitative data. Based on the test result, the highest score in identifying anaphoric in narrative text is 90 and the lowest score is 50.The final result shows that eight grade of SMP Swasta Romalbest are able in identifying anaphoric in narrative text, because their mean score is 70. There are 18 students who are able identifying anaphoric in narrative text 60 % and there are 12 students who are unable and have difficulties in identifying anaphoric reference 40 %. And students have difficulties in anaphoric. Such as, students never learned about anaphoric before, distinguish anaphoric with pronoun and possesive pronoun, and students didn’t understand how to translated the text.en_US
