The purpose of this study was to determine the metacognitive processes undertaken by student teachers in solving mathematical problems contextually. To reveal the process of metacognition, think aloud method is used, which is a method of expressing a process that takes place in the mind by using words, writing, or behavior, so as tobe understood by others. To get a clearer picture, the researchers also conducted interviews conducted when problem solving takes place. The subjects were two prospective teachers, students of Mathematics Education, University of HKBP Nommensen. The results showed that the contextual math problems, metacognitive processes undertaken both subjects showed dynamics, and quite different from the formal mathematical problems.en_US
