dc.description.abstractThis study aims at analyzing the politeness strategy produced by English teachers during teaching learning process at SMP HKBP P.BULAN MEDAN. The research design of this study is qualitative design. Participants and place of this the study are the teachers of class VII and VIII SMP HKBP P.BULAN MEDAN. Technique of collecting data of this research is video recording utterances on teachers. There are 90 data of politeness strategy that found the researcher on teachers during teaching learning process. The conclusion there are Notice, attend to Hearer is 17 data i:e 68%, Exaggerate (approval, interest with Hearer is 2 data i:e 8%, Intensify interest to Hearer is 5 data i:e 20%, Use in group Identity Markers is 6 data i:e 24%, Seek Agreement is 4 data i:e 16%, Avoid Disagreement is 2 data i:e 8%, Presuppose/Raise/Assert Common Ground is 0 data i:e 0%, Joke is 1 data i:e 4%, Assert or Presuppose speaker’s knowledge of as concern for H’s Wants is 2 data i:e 8%, Offer, Promise is 1 data i:e 4%, Be Optimistic is 3 data i:e 12%, Iclude Both Speakerand Hearer in the Activity is 11 data i:e 44%, Give or ask for Reason is 5 data i:e 20%, Assume or Assert Recipocity is 2 data i:e 8%, Give gift to H (goods, Sympathy, Understanding, cooperation) is 3 data i:e 12%, and then the writer also found ten negative strategies that is Be conventionally Indirect is 3 data i:e 15%, question hedge is 2 data i:e 10%, Be pesimistic is 4 data i:e 20%, Minimize the Imposition is 3 data i:e 15%, Give deference is 1 data i:e 5%, Impersonalize Sand H: Avoid the Pronouns is 5 data i:e 25%, State the FTA as a general rule is 1 data i:e 5%, Nominalize is 4 i:e 20%, Go on record as incuiring a debt, or as not indebting H is 4 data i:e 20%.en_US
