dc.description.abstractThe objective of this research is to identify the frequencies of occurances of the students “grammatical errors based on surface strategy taxonomy that is found in their descriptive text. This research applied descriptive qualitative method, where the researcher gathered the data from the student’s descriptive text writing. The data gained were further based on the surface strategy taxonomy in order to draw the conclusion. Having analyzed the data, it was found that the first grade students of second semester at SMA N 1 Percut sei tuan, committed four types of errors based on surface strategy taxonomy. Based on research finding, the dominant error from the types of the errors based on surface strategy taxonomy is error of misformation namely Alternating form category with 31 errors and the percentage is 100%. In the second place, there is error of misordering category with 4 errors and the percentage is 100% and the third place is error of addition namely simple addition category with 4 error and the percentage is 57%. And the last error of ommision namely error of noun category with 4 errors and the percentage is 40%. The highes frequency of whole errors is misformation and the lowest one simple addition. It occurred because the difference of indonesian language and English are different. Therefore, English teacher should not ignore the errors committed by the students. The teacher can give remedial teaching for the students to improve students’ mastery writing skill.en_US
