    Abstract
Many studies have been performed investigating mangrove potential benefits with regard to sustainability of environment and food security. Essensial role of mangroves ecosystem provides ecological benefit and economical services to community along coastal line. Mangroves act as natural barrier towards wave, storm, and tsunami and give protection to the livelihood. It also supports sustaining aquacultural production. Beside its potential role as an alternative to food resources, the potentially anti microbial and antioxidant activities of active compounds found in the extract of edible part of mangrove offered an interesting role as a fuctional food. Care should be always taken to the possibility of high contain of trace element in edible part of the mangroves, which has a highly risk on human health, as the mangroves could absorb those heavy metals from the sea water and sediment and deposited in plant. However, considering the benefit offered by mangrove we face a high demand on conservation and restoration program on mangrove.
