Analysis of Translation Strategies Used By Students in Translating Idiom at The Second Grade of SMK Negeri 5 Medan
Abstract
This study aims to analysis of translation strategies used by students in translating idiom. Thissubject of this study was XI-TITL3 students of SMK Negeri 5 Medan. There are 30 students as sample in this class. This study used qualitative research. The problem of this study was “ what were the translation strategies used by students in translating idiom”?. The data were collected by giving a test which consist 10 items of English idiom that must be translated to Indonesia. Based on the analysis and the classification of translation strategies by second grade XI-TITL3 students at SMK Negeri 5 Medan in the academic years 2017/2018 in translating idioms, the research found 4 strategies, there are 138 translation by paraphares, 57 translation by omission, 35 using an idiom similiar meaning and form, 28 using an idiom similiar meaning but dissimiliar form and 42 eror translation strategies. The result of the study showed that the XI-TITL3 students of SMK Negeri 5 Medan have some strategies in translating idiom. They need more teach about the way of translating and the teacher should give more attention to train the students in translating idiom.
