An Analysis of Metaphor Used in Speaking of XI Grade Students at SMA PARULIAN 1 Medan.

Abstract

This study deals with the kinds of metaphor are used of students at the second year of SMA PARULIAN 1 Medan. The objective of this study are to find out the types of metaphor are used in speaking of XI Grade Students at SMA PARULIAN 1 Medan. The sample of this study were the students of classes XI IPA 1 and XI IPS 1. This study use descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected from the utterances of the students who are speaking that consist of metaphor about sad experience, choose one topic (lost favorite thing, lost parents, break).After the data were collected, the writer underline the metaphor, classifying the metaphor based on kinds of metaphor and then interpret the analysis of the data. The result of this study, the studentsuse structural metaphor are 13 sentences, ontological metaphor are 2 sentences, and orientational metaphor are 15 sentences.
