An Errors Analysis of Lexical Collocation in Writing Report Text For Grade X in Senior High School Hosana Medan.
Abstract
This study deals in finding an error analysis of Lexical Collocation in Writing Report Text For Grade X in Senior High School Hosana Medan. The objective of the study was to found out the dominant types of lexical collocational errors in the students’ writing report text. This study was conducted into descriptive qualitative research. There were 10 students used as the object who came from the class of X IPA in academic year 2017-2018. The instrument of collecting data was writing test, writing report text. The data were collected by asking the students to write report text, then collecting students’ worksheet found out the errors. The data were analyzed by identifying the students’ lexical collocational errors by underlining every error from the students’ report text, after that classifying the types of error based on four types of the lexical collocations. The research result showed that there were 71 lexical collocation error made by the students in writing report text. The data analysis pointed out that the students tend to make lexical collocational error on adjective + noun. This type has the highest number of errors (37), followed by verb + a noun (15), adverb + adjective (14), verb+ adverb (5). It can be concluded that the mostly type of lexical collocation errors used by the students in writing report text is on adjective + noun. Therefore, English teacher was suggested to focus on teaching lexical collocational in the teaching learning.
