dc.description.abstractThis study deals with the improving students’ grammar mastery in active and passive voice by using deductive application of rule technique. This study tries to find out does Deductive Application of Rule Technique significantly improve grammar skill of students. Deductive application of rule technique is one of the right techniques to improve grammar mastery where deductive is a technique from general to specific. This study is conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this study is the second year students of SMP Swasta Advent 1 Medan. The sample of this study is the students of VIII consisting of 20 students. There were two kinds of collected data during the study; quantitative and qualitative data. The data for collecting the quantitative data was grammar test and qualitative data was gathered through diary notes. The qualitative data showed that the students were interested in Deductive Application of Rule Technique. Based on quantitative data, it is found that students’ grammar mastery improved from pre-test to post-test cycle I and post-test cycle II. It can be seen from the students’ mean scores and the percentage of the students who got score up to 75. The mean of the students’ score for pre-test is 49,75. The mean of the students’ score for post test in cycle I is 67,6. And the mean of the students’ score for post test in cycle II is 78,5. The percentage of the students’ score for pre test is 10%. The percentage of the students’ score for post test in cycle I is 20%. The percentage of the students’ score for post test in cycle II is 75%.en_US
