The correlation between students’ mastery in simple past and writing narrative text of second grade at SMP Advent 4 Medan.
Abstract
The objective of this study was to find out the correlation between students’ mastery in simple past and writing narrative text of second grade at SMP Advent 4 Medan. The method that used in this research isDescriptive Quantitative. To collect the data the writer used purposive sampling technique. The population is of this research is 24 students. All of the students as a sample of this research .The data were taken through test, grammar test and writing test. The data were analyzed by using product moment correlation by Pearson. The formula used to find out the the correlation coefficient between students’ mastery in simple past and writing narrative text of second grade at SMP Advent 4 Medan. From this research, the writer found that the average score of students’ mastery of past tense is 52.083 and the average score of students‘ skill in writing Narrative text is 42 The total result from the formula is 1.00. It means that the result obtained from the computation is higher than its critical value. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there is a strong correlation between students’ mastery of past tense and their skill in writing Narrative text in the second grade students of SMP Advent 4 Medan.
