AN ANALYISIS OF FIGURATIVE MEANING IN THE NABASA TRIO’S SONG LYRICS
Abstract
This study aims to determine the type of figurative language meaning and the most dominant language used by the Nabasa trio in 10 video songs along with the meaning of the words spoken. The source of this research data was taken from the album in the song Trio Batak Nabasa on the Rosari Record Youtube Channel.
This study only focuses on the figurative meaning of the language used by Trio Nabasa. The author uses a qualitative descriptive method to explain the existing phenomena by using the theory proposed by Saeed (2009) about the figurative meaning of language and the theory from Saeed (2009) about the types of language. After being analyzed, the authors found 8 types of figurative meanings used by the Nabasa trio in 10 video songs, namely personification 32%, simile
9%, metaphor 20%. Based on the most dominant or frequently used proportions are the figurative meanings of metonymy 18%, hyperbole 18%, litotes 9%, oxymoron 0%, irony 5%. Based on the proportion the most dominant or the most frequently used is the figurative meaning of figurative language 50% so that the type of figurative meaning used by Trio Nabasa in song conversations with the listening community is to give positive things. comments and deserves to be listened to, noticed by the Indonesian people of North Sumatra, especially the Batak people and tend to tend to put others first.
