Analysis of Students' Motivation in Learning English at SMA Negeri 1 Simanindo as a school in the Tourism Area.
Abstract
This research discussed about the analysis of students' motivation in learning English at SMA Negeri 1 Simanindo as a school in a tourist area. This study answers the problem: What is the motivation of students in learning English at SMA NEGERI 1 SIMANINDO as a school in a tourism area? This research used descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research was 30 students from
1 class. Data was collected through a written questionnaire with a Likert Scale instrument. This study's findings were to determine students' motivation at SMA Negeri 1 Simanindo in learning English. The statements in the questionnaire distributed were 30 statements consisting of 2 parts, namely 15 statements of intrinsic motivation and 15 statements of extrinsic motivation. The results based on the research that has been done, it was found that 11 statements of extrinsic motivation agreed with responses while intrinsic motivation received responses of deciding on 10 statements. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that students of SMA Negeri 1 Simanindo have a dominant motivation in extrinsic motivation, where the extrinsic motivation was in the form of appreciation on the surrounding environment, the role of English as an international language, and in the era of globalization and getting good grades when learning English.
