    THE EFFECT OF USING PROFILE PICTURE OF INSTAGRAM IN TEACHING WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA SINGOSARI DELITUA

    Abstract
    This study focused on finding out the effect of using profile picture of instagram in teaching writing descriptive text. The objective of the study is to find out whether or not the profile picture affects students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the Second-year students of SMA Singosari Delitua. The writer took X-1 which consists of 20 students as an experimental class with used Profile Picture of Kevin Systrom the founder of instagram and Selena Gomez is an Actress of Hollywood and X-2 which consists of 20 students as the control group used explanation technique about descriptive text. The population of this study was 20 students which consist of tenth classes. The writer took two classes as random sampling to see the effect of Profile Picture of Instagram in teaching writing descriptive text. The data were taken by giving writing test. The tests were divided into two tests: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control groups. The mean score of pre-test in the experimental class is 57 and the post-test is 85,55. The mean score of pre-test in the control group is 53,4 and the post-test is 82,1. It is conducted that the mean score of the experimental group is higher than a control group. The result that the calculated > t-table as the level of significance p=0.05 (4,48 >1.734). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is suggested that teachers of English subject apply Profile Picture of Instagram as an alternative teaching technique to help writing ability at tenth grade students of Senior High School.
