The Effectiveness of Using Flashcards in Teaching Simple Present Tense at the Eight Grade Students of SMP N 2 Simpang Empat Karo.
Abstract
The inclusion of pictures on flashcards is valuable because appropriate pictures bring the image of reality into the abstract concepts encountered in language learning. This thesis focused on finding out of the effectiveness of using flashcards media on learning simple present tense at SMP Negeri 2 Simpang Empat Karo. This study was conducted in experimental quantitative design. The population of this study was eighth grade of students in SMP N 2 Simpang Empat Karo. In this research, the researcher took two classes as a sample. They were 20 students of experimental class and 20 students of control class. The techniques of data collection were simple Present Test. The researcher used statistic calculation of the t-test to analyze the data. The test used the pre- test and post- test for the both classes. The result of this research showed that the mean score of pretest experimental class was 54. While, in control class was 52.85. meanwhile, the mean score of post-test from experimental class was 84. While in control class was 74. It means that the mean score of post-test from experimental class was higher than control class. The result of t-test calculation shown that the value of t- test was higher than the value of t table. The value of t-test was 3.346 while the value of t- table with db: 38 that was categorize into db= 40 was, 2.21. It means that there was significant effectiveness of flashcards media to teach simple present tense. So, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.
