THE USE OF LANGUAGE STYLE ON THE VICTORY SPEECH OF DONALD TRUMP AND JOE BIDEN

Abstract

The research entitled "The Used of Language Style On The Victory Speech of Donald Trump and Joe Biden" aims to analyze and compare the types of language styles in the victory speeches of Donald Trump and Joe Biden. This research problem is to learn what style of language Donald Trump and Joe Biden and what is the most dominant type in their victory speeches. This study uses a qualitative approach. The data retrieved from the Internet. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the theory of Martin Joos (1967); Frozen Style, Formal Style, Casual Style, Consultative Style and Intimate Style. In this research, the writer found that there were 50 data related to the type of language style used by Donald Trump which consists of 27 Formal Style, 13 Casual Style and 10 Intimate style. The researcher also found that there were 50 data related to the language style used by Joe Biden, which consisted of 36 Formal Styles, 11 Casual Styles, 2 Frozen Styles and 1 Intimate Style. It can be concluded that in the victory speech Donald Trump and Joe Biden, both use more Formal style because of the formal and serious situations of the occassion. Meanwhile, they occasionally use other language styles to make listeners interested and understand the message conveyed.
