This thesis aims to determine the semantic meaning of the transitivity system to find out how the message of the Nick Vujicic's speech entitled "Overcoming Hopelessness" is conveyed. In analyzing the data, the theory of Systemic Functional Grammar by M. A. K. Halliday is used with mixed methods, namely qualitative and quantitative. As the basis for the study of language context, transitivity plays an important role in the speech. The findings show that the speech contains of material processes (33%), relational processes (29%), mental processes (23%), verbal processes (8%), behavioral processes (4%), and existential processes. (3%). Material process is the most dominant percentage level among other processes. This indicates that the speech is mostly involved physical activity. It can be seen that material processes are most accessible to human conscious reflection to persuade while speaking. Nick positively influences the audience to follow suggestions and advice based on what he experienced.
