AN ERROR ANALYSIS OF USING INFLECTIONAL MORPHOLOGY IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT BY THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS IN SMA NEGERI 5 MEDAN
Abstract
According to Jackson & Amvele (2002:70) inflection is a general grammatical process that combines words and affixes (always suffixes in English) to produce alternative grammatical forms of words. This study purposed to identify the Inflectional Morphology that found in recount text by the students in SMA Negeri 5 Medan. In this study, the researcher analyzed types of error and the causes of errors of inflectional morphology in recount text by the students of SMA Negeri 5 Medan. Based on Theory of Valero et.al (2008:91) states that the types of errors, namely: Omission, Addition, Substitution, Miss-ordering. This study used descriptive qualitative research to analyze the data. The source of data was from the students of SMA Negeri 5 Medan, the instrument of collecting data were text recount and observed and technique collecting data by the followed steps: explain more about recount text, asking the student to write the text,
and collect the data. The researcher found 11 cases (52,4%) errors that
occurred in Omission, Addition 3 (14,3%).
Substitution 4 cases (19%), Miss Ordering 3 cases (14,3%)and the causes of errors occurred in intra-lingual transfer (73,8%) and inter-lingual transfer (26,2%). From the result, the researcher concluded that errors of omission is the most dominant type of error occurred in inflectional morphology.
