AN ANALYSIS OF SCIENTIFIC APPROACH IN TEACHING ENGLISH AT TENTH GRADE ON SMA NEGERI 1 SIABU
Abstract
This thesis is about an analysis of scientific approach in teaching English at tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 SIABU. The objectives of the study was to know the implementation of scientific approach by English teacher in teaching English at tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 SIABU and to know the problems of teacher when implementation scientific approach at tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 SIABU. This study was conducted by applying Descriptive Qualitative research. The researcher observed and interview two English teachers to get the data. The instrument of collecting data was Observation, Interview, and Documentation. The data were obtained on the implementation of Scientific Approach in teaching English by English teacher. The researcher found the teachers can implement all the steps of scientific approach in teaching English such as observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and communicating. The researcher found two problems of the English teacher implemented scientific approach in teaching English. They are (1) in observing is incomplete school facilities like projector to support teaching learning process and (2) in questioning is lack of student interest in learning made the scientific approach process less active. The benefits of this research for state and nation especially for English teachers are this research can be used as a source by teachers to implement scientific approach in teaching English.
