The Effect of Using Daily School Journal on Students Writing Skills in Recount Text of Eleventh Grade at SMA Swasta Nurani Medan.
Abstract
This study focused on finding out the effect of applying Daily School Journal on students’ writing ability. The objective of the study is to find out whether or notDaily School Journal affects students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the Second-year students of SMAS Nurani Medan. The writer took XI-1 which consists of 10 students as an experimental class with used Daily School Journal and XI-2 which consists of 10 students as the control group used theconventional method. The population of this study was 20 students which consist of eightclasses. The writer took two classes as random sampling to see the effect of Daily School Journal in teaching writing. The data were taken by giving writing a recount test. The tests were divided into two tests: pre-test and post-test forboth experimental and control groups. The mean score of pre-test in the experimental class is 51.7 and the post-test is 84.9. The mean score of pre-test in the control group is 63 and the post-test is 70. It is conducted that the mean score of the experimental group ishigher than a control group. The result that t- calculated > t-table as the level of significance p=0.05 (9.93 >1.734). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and thenull hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is suggested that teachers of English subject apply Daily School Journal as an alternative teaching technique to help writing ability at eleventh grade students of Senior High School.
