IMPROVING VOCABULARY STUDENTS' ACHIEVEMENT IN READING THROUGH BINGO GAME FOR GRADE VII SMP NEGERI 1 GAJAH MADA
Abstract
The main purpose of this research was to investigate the reading skill especially in vocabulary mastery of the students at SMP N 1 Gajah Mada and to know whether the Bingo game could help students learning in reading especially to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The writer tried to attest that the Bingo game can be appropriate and fun teaching media to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. This kind of study was classroom action research (CAR) which was done in two cycles. Each cycle consist of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subject of this study was 20 students of eight grade in SMP N 1 Gajah Mada. In collecting the data, the writer used test (pre- test, post-test I and post-test 2) and interview. The result of this study showed that Bingo game was significantly improved students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be proven by the students’ average score of pre-test to post-test cycle 1 and cycle 2. The average score in the pretest was 65.2 which reached 20% students who could pass the KKM, in the post test cycle 1 the mean of students score was 75,4 which reach 60% students who could pass the KKM, and in test cycle 2 the mean of students score was 85,3 which reach students who could pass the KKM 90%. The writer suggested that the Bingo game is worth to be explored in teaching other skill in English, such as listening, reading, and writing.
