The effect of story impression strategy on students reading comprehension at SMP N 1 Lubuk Pakam.
Abstract
This study focused on finding out the effect of applying story impression on students reading comprehension. The objective of the study is to find out the significantly affect on students reading comprehension who are taught by using story impression strategy in narrative text. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the first year students of SMP N 1 Lubuk Pakam. The writer took IX-U which consist as experimental group used story impression strategy and IX-A which consist of 10 students as control group used conventional method. The writer took two classes as random sampling to see the effect of story impression strategy in teaching reading. The data were taken by giving reading test, multiple choice. The test were divided into two test: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control group. The mean score of pre-test in experimental group is 53.6 and the post test is 63.8. The mean score of pre-test in control group is 58.8 and the post- test is 59.6. It is conducted that the mean score of experimental group is higher than control group. The result that t-calculated > t-table as the level significance p = 0.05 (2.8 > 1.734. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It suggested that teachers of English subject to apply Story Impression Strategy as an alternative teaching strategy to help students reading comprehension ability at ninth grade of SMP N 1 Lubuk Pakam.
