The Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Translating Narrative Text from Indonesia to English at Third Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Baktiraja.
Abstract
In this research, the writer focused on students’ difficulties in translation in third grade of SMA Negeri 1 Baktiraja. The objective of the study is to find out the diffuculties of translation by the students in translating narrative text. The subject of this study is the third grade of SMA Negeri 1 Baktiraja. The data was narrative text that the students translated into English. This research used descriptive qualitative method as a reserach design. The researcher collected data through steps by analyzed the student’s paper in translating narrative text into Eglish. Finally, the result of this study showed that there are five types of difficulties in translating text namely Not Transmitted (11,11%), Incomplete Without Hearing Message (12,96%), Grammar Mistakes (35,18), Vocabulary Mistakes (31,48%), Addition (9,25%). Based on the test of the students’ translation, this research showed the students difficulties in translating narrative text. The students were difficult to translate a text and some of them justb used their mind or their logic to translate a text. The writer suggests that the teacher keep their attention in teaching the students about translation and improve the student vocabulary that they can use the good English in translating a text into English as well in translating text
