The Perceptions on Asynchronous Learning of English Departmnet Students at Faculty of Teacher Training in University of HKBP Nommensen.
Abstract
The aim of this study to know the perceptions on Asynchronous learning process of English Department students at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in University of HKBP Nommensen Medan. In this study, the instruments of collecting data are used questionnaires and interviews which the writer shared by using Google Form. The questionnaire sheet consists of twelve questions about perceptions of the Asynchronous learning process. And the interview sheet consists of twelve questions about the Asynchronous learning process. The source of data in this study was taken by the sixth-semester student of English Department. There are twenty students have been filled the questionnaire sheet and twenty students have been answered the interview sheet. This study was applied a descriptive qualitative design. This study used a questionnaire and interview instruments to collect data such as; (1) student response questionnaires; (2) interview guidelines to support the results of the student response questionnaire. The findings from the data analysis, there are 75% positive perceptions and 25% negative perception of the students perceptions of Asynchronous learning process. Most students said that the teaching and learning process was effective with online learning and the online teaching and learning process could foster students' independent learning attitudes as the online learning process is getting easier with the online learning system. Based on the results of the questionnaire, the respondents stated that this is an alternative way to do learning activity from home in the pandemic situation. Other side, students faced some barriers such as poor internet connection, limited quotas, less motivation, a brief explanation of material provided by lecturers. The writer suggests that the lecturers must be able to prepare the support component such as a more systematic learning plan, provide more explanation and create the class more enjoyable.
