USING ESA (ENGANGED, STUDY, ACTIVATE) METHOD FOR IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 1 SIPAHUTAR
Abstract
This research aimed to improves the students speaking ability by using ESA Method. This research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was the Second Grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sipahutar which consist of 32 students. The objective of this research was to investigate whether or not where ESA can Improves students’ speaking in ability at Second Grade Students’ of SMP Negeri 1 Sipahutar. This research was conducted in two cycles which each consists’ of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data were gathered through quantitative and qualitative data.
The result of this research showed that there was increasing of students in speaking ability. The mean of pre-test was 58.12. The mean of post-test cycle I was 66.87 and the mean of post-test cycle II was 79.37. It indicated that the scores and the mean in Cycle II were better than the Cycle I. The percentage of students who got students point >75 also grew up. In the pre-test, the students who got point >75 up were 5 students (15.62%). In the post-test Cycle I students who got >75 up were 9 students (28.12%). And in the post-test Cycle II the students who got point >75 up were 31 students (96.87%). In the other words, the students’ ability in speaking improves.
