AN ERROR ANALYSIS OF USING GERUND IN STUDENTS’ DESCRIPTIVE WRITING AT THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Abstract
This thesis deals with An Error Analysis of Using Gerund in Students’ Descriptive Writing At The Eight Grade Students of Junior High School. Gerund is ing form which is used as noun. The objectives are to find out the types and the most dominant types of errors in using Gerund. The method of this research is qualitative research which uses some techniques to collect the data. The data are taken from 15 students as the samples by asking them to write a descriptive text using Gerund.. The data, then, are analyzed based on the kinds of and the most dominant errors. From the analysis it is found that the percentage of omission error 18.42%, addition is 42.10 %, misformation is 26.31 %, and misordering is 13.15%. Therefore, the most dominant error is addition error 42.10%.
