The Analysis of Slang Words Use in Songs Lyric of Bruno Mars. English Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Nommensen HKBP University Medan

Abstract

This research discusses about the slang words use in Bruno Mars’s songs lyric. The aims of this research are to find out the types of slang words in Bruno Mars’s songs lyric, and the second is to find out the dominant types of slang words found in Bruno Mars’s songs lyric. The writer interested to do this this research because nowadays, there are so many people use slang words in daily conversation included also in song lyric. But the problem is, the people usually get confused to have the specific meaning in lyric of song. Because the slang words meaning is not found in the dictionary. That’s why the slang is very important to understand in song when someone read the lyric of song. In this research, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative design. The data are taken from slang words found and marked in Bruno mars song’s lyric that are consist of 10 song titles. This research used Bloomfield theory (2014). The result of this research shows that the researcher has found 105 slang words of 10 songs lyric of Bruno Mars. Types of slang word found by researcher are abbreviation, shortened words, a funny mispronounce, and interjection. The dominant slang words is ”shortened words” that are consist of 89 from 105 slang words found with the percentage 84,7 %. The benefit of this research for the nation and state is that people can know what slang words are like, so that in their use they can adjust where and with whom they speak because slang words are used in informal communication.
