The Effect of Using Word Search Puzzle Game on Students Vocabulary Mastery
Abstract
This thesis is about The Effect of Using Word Search Puzzle Game on Students Vocabulary Mastery. The problem of the study “Does the use of Word Search Puzzle game significantly affect the students vocabulary mastery at the eight grade students of junior high school?”. The objective of the study is to find out whether or not Word Search Puzzle Game affect on students achievement in vocabulary. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The subject of the study was the second year students of junior high school. The writer took VIII-A which consists of 10 students as experimental class with used Word Search Puzzle Game and VIII-B which consists 10 students as control group without Word Search Puzzle Game. The population of this research was 20 students which consists of two parallel classes. The writer took both class as total sampling to see The Effect of Using Word Search Puzzle Game in teaching vocabulary. The data were taken by giving vocabulary test which consists of multiple choice, gap fill, matching, and C-test. The test was divided into two tests: pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control group. The mean score of pre-test in experimental class is 67.25 and the post-test is 88.25. The mean score of pre-test in control group is 62 and the post-test is 69. It is concluded that the mean score of experimental group is higher than control group. The result that t-calculated > t-table at the level of significance p = 0.05 (2.03> 1.73). The alternative hypotesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypotesis (Ho) is rejected. It means that Ha of this study was accepted. In other words, word search puzzle game gave effect on vocabulary mastery the eight grade students of junior high school.
