The Effect of Estermporaneous Seech Method on Students’ Vocabulary Achievement at SMA Swasta Negeri 1 Hutaraja Tinggi
Abstract
This study deals with the Effect of Extermporaneous specch method on students’ vocabulary achievement of SMA Negeri 1 Hutaraja Tinggi. Extermporaneous speech is designed to teach students with preparation orthe approach most speech communication teachers recomended for most situation. When delivering a speech extermporaneously, you speak from a written general outline, but you do not have the exact wording in front of you or in memory.This study is conducted by using Experimental quantitative research. The population of this study is the second grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Hutaraja Tinggi. The writer takes 60 students as the sample and they are devided into two groups by using random sampling. The first group was XI IPA 3 as Experimental class which is taught by implementing Extermporaneous Speech Method.While the second group is XI IPA 2 as Control class which is taught by using conventional way. Multiple choice, Complete Sentence and Word Defenition is used as the instrument of collecting the data. Theses test consist of two types, namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shows t-observedit is 4,97 is higher than t-table it is 1.671 at the level significance (p: 0.05) with the degree of freedom (df) 58. It means that Ha is acepted while Ho is rejected, therefore it is concluded that Extermporaneous Speech methodsignificantly affects on Students’ Vocabulary achievement of second grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Hutaraja Tinggi. It is suggested that teachers of English Subject should implement Extermporaneous speech method as one of alternatives in teaching english subject especially for sub skill is vocabulary to increase students English skill in vocabulary achievement
