    Abstract
    This thesis deals with speech functions used by teacher and students in classroom interaction found in youtube. There are four types of speech function according Hallidaytheory namely : statement, question,command, and offer. The objectives of this study were to describe the types of speech function used by teacher and studentsin classroom interaction and to find out the dominantly types of speech function used by teacher and students in classroom.The study is designed as qualitative research method. Technique of collecting data is Observation. And then instrument of collecting data is make the video recordingto capture of learning. Technique of analyzing data istranscribed down in form of written, transcript into clauses ,focusing on speech functions of the teacher and the students, classifying the utterance on types of speech function, calculate the most dominantly types of speech function. The researcher analyzed all the Types used by teacher and students. The result finding shows that there are four types of speech function that are utterred by the teacher and students which are produced by the teacher is statement (32%), question (41,5%), command (26.4%). And produced by the students is statement ( 72%), question (20%), command (8%) The result showed that the question was the dominant type of speech functions used by the teacher and statement was the dominant type of speech function used by student’s. By understanding this research, the researcher hope that readers can improve their ability to interact interactively by implementing knowledge in this study.
