This research aims to find out the effect of students achievement in teaching transactional and interpersonal dialogue on students’ speaking skills by using describing picture strategy. The research design of this study is experimental quantitative. The nine-grade students in SMP Negeri 7 Medan were chosen as the sample of this study with a total number of 48 students. The experimental and control class employed pre-test and post-test. These tests proved in the form of a speaking test. The data is the tests were calculated by using the t-test formula. The result showed that the post-test score was higher than the pre-test. The finding showed that there was an effect significantly of transactional and interpersonal dialogue on the students’ achievement in speaking skill performance after undertaking treatments. There was an enhancement of the students’ number score. The mean score of the experimental class range from the pre-test was 56,91 and from the post-test was 71. And for the control class the mean score from the pre-test was 52,91 and from the post-test was 59,66. The data analysis showed that t-test was 1,552 and t-table at significant level of α=0,20 was 1,533 Thus, the data can be stated that t-test was higher than t-table (1,552 >1,533). The data showed that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. This means that the use ofDescribing Picture can be used as one of the strategy to teaching English, especially for speaking skills.
