The Effect of Anticipation Reaction Guide (ARG) Strategy on Students’ Reading Comprehension.
Abstract
This study focussed on finding out the effect of applying the Anticipation Reaction Guide (ARG) Strategy on students’ reading comprehension at eight grade students. The objective of this study is to find out if the application of the Anticipation-Reaction Guide (ARG) significantly affect students' reading comprehension. There were some problems of students in narrative text reading ability, the students could not comprehend the whole reading text, and it made some problem such as the students could not find out the main idea, the students understood what is the content of the text, and also the students did not answer the question that related to the text. This study was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The writer took 10 students as experimental group and 10 students as the control group. The experimental group used Anticipation-Reaction Guide (ARG) Strategy and the control group used the Explaining method. The data were taken by giving multiple choices. The test was divided into two test pre-test and post-test for both experimental and control groups. The mean score of the pre-test in the experimental group is 51,4 and the post-test is 83,4. The mean score of the pre-test in the control group is 49,6 and the post-test is 66,4. It is conducted that the mean score of the experimental group is higher than the control group. The result that t-calculated > t-table as the level of significance p=0.05 (3,52>1.734).It means that the Ha hypothesis is accepted or there is a significant effect of using the Anticipation Reaction Guide Strategy on students reading comprehension.
